Q: Where is the best place to get vintage inspired swing dress patterns?
I'm getting married in October and would like to make my own dress. We are having a 50's theme wedding and I am looking for 50's swing dress patterns, new patterns that is. Where online can I look?
A: Butterick carries a line of retro patterns, available on their website or at any fabric store. Also try McCall's, Simplicity, Vogue, etc. If you're near a Wal-Mart or fabric store, check the pattern books, usually in the costume index.
Q: What paper is best for making dress patterns?
Tissue was cheap for Simplicity, Butterick et al --- but too fragile to use when making your own patterns from a favorite old dress or an original design. What can a home seamstress use that's reasonably sturdy to make up a pattern from scratch?
A: Simple brown paper - either from a roll you purchase, or grocery bags you can tape together after you break them down and straighten them out. Very sturdy, easy to write on, easy to cut.
Q: What are some companies that make beautiful bridal and evening dress patterns.?
I'm getting married and I'm going to get a custom dress for myself and bridesmaids. I've looked in the Vogue catalogs and found gorgeous dress patterns.

I want to wear an authentic native american dress for my wedding. I can't seem to find a pattern for one though.

A: I was assigned this as a project for my textiles coursework :) we designed whatever we wanted and looked for a pattern after, one which was sort of similar so we could alter it to be the same as our designs. you can alter patterns by tracing them onto paper, cutting it out and using that instead which is what we had to do. it's a very long and complicated process so you should ask parents or grandparents or other relatives for help :) you can buy patterns for all sorts of garments from sewing/textiles shops. good luck!
