Q: Patterns...?
Does anyone know if there are any patterns for clothes that fit Build a Bears? I have one, and I love to sew, so why not save a little money and make my B. a B. some clothes myself!!

A: Simplicity has a pattern for clothing for small and large bears, including vests, hats, and bows in a variety of fabrics with or without appliqued leaves and flowers. It is Simplicity Crafts #5461, which can be purchased at any store that sells fabric. I got my pattern at Wal-Mart at a discounted price. eBay also has "craft" patterns which may be lower than the marked pattern price, even after you pay shipping. Making bears and/or their clothing is considered a craft project. When looking for clothing for bears, you need to look in the craft section of the pattern book. Good luck!

Q: Why are there 4 different ways to put patterns on fabric?
I just bought a sewing pattern from Simplicity, and I've worked with a pattern before, but it only showed one way to place the pattern on fabric. In this pattern it showed 4 different ways to place the pattern. And I know that with some patterns you can make different things (ex. 6 different shirts in one pattern), but on mine, pattern D came with D1, D2, D3, D4. How do I know which pattern to pick?

A: Different layouts are usually for different types and sizes of fabrics such as 44/45" or 60", or with or without nap... Also, directional fabrics (ie. stripes) or repeating designs (assuming you want to match them up) use more fabric than solids or random prints because you have to be fussy with the layout. You will choose the layout that best matches your fabric width and type. Hope this helps!

Q: What patterns do the english gothic lolita bibles have in them?
I've heard that the first volume has only accessories in it.. So i was wondering if anyone could give me a list of what patterns are actually in each book. At the moment I only want to buy one volume and while the accessories are cool I"m just starting out so I need patterns for the more basic stuff. Thanks in advance ;)

A: Volume 1 had a tote bag, a bunny ear capelet, an alice bow, and some ugly punkish gothish wolf and cat themed accessories. Volume 2 had a really ugly super puffy lace monster blouse, and two skirts. Volume 3 had knickerbockers, a super short dress, two blouses, a cloth rose corsage, a headdress, and a mini top hat. Volume 4 had some knitted accessories, a fur cape and muff, a ribbons corsage, an ugly skeleton stuffed animal thing, and a skirt.

Q: What are different kinds of writing patterns?
I have an assignment in my english class where I am supposed to write a short story and I have to write it using a writing pattern. The only example we got was Hero's Journey. I don't really want to use this pattern because I think so will most of the class. Are there any other writing patterns? And are there sites taht list the steps?

A: I understand what you are saying and that you want to be different and I probably would have approached this the same way as you at your age. However I now realize that I would have got better grades at school if I hadn't tried to be different all the time. I think the teacher wants you to use "hero's journey"since it is the only one she gave you. I can't really find many other sites that list steps of this sort in a short simple way and I have hundreds of writing books. So go with hero's journey and just write an original cool story would be my advice.

Q: What are some patterns with regard to ions that tend to be of low solubility vs high solubility?
I did a lab in AP Chemistry and we saw if certain reactions produced preecipitates or not. I had to write net ionic equations which I did. I need to know what some patterns are with regard to ions that tend to be of low solubility and those which tend to be of high solubility.

A: Chloride and nitrate salts are soluble. Salts of higher valence cations (+2 or higher) are insoluble, unless they are chlorides or nitrates. Cations of +1 charge are soluble, except for silver. However, silver nitrate is soluble. Hydroxide salts of cations of +3 charge or higher are insoluble, except at low pH. Thus, for example, sodium chloride and silver nitrate are soluble, but if solutions are mixed, silver chloride precipitiates, leaving sodium nitrate in solution. Calcium nitrate mixed with sodium sulfate will precipitate calcium sulfate, leaving sodium nitrate in solution.

Q: What is the significance of color patterns on old chimnies?
My father lives in an old Victorian style house, and the chimnies have patterns of black and white stripes. We were wondering if this pattern has some unique meaning that would have meant something about the owner. Our thought was that it could even be something political. If anyone has insight, I'd appreciate it!

A: These were done for aesthetic purposes typically as part of the English Tudor design. The chimneys were highly visible with these structures. In the Victorian era a fad took hold that was to lower the obtrusive profile of the chimneys which consistently had smoke billowing out (as the main source of heating). So simply an aesthetic attribute. (the following is spoke like john clease of Monty Python) I don't know what the hell I am talking about but doesn't it sound like I do!. God! What a damn good bull shiiter I am!!! Yes indeedee! And now for something completely different!.........................its!

Q: Where can I find the original patterns for the vintage Charlotte Clark Mickey Mouse dolls for free?
Where can I find the original patterns for the vintage Charlotte Clark Mickey Mouse dolls for free? There doesn't even seem to be a pattern for sale on the internet. Help much needed!

A: You probably can't. Why should they be free? If you have any idea on who produced them in the first place, you could try contacting them.

Q: What are stitch patterns on a sewing machine?
I'm looking at different sewing machines but I'm not familiar with them at all. Some say 18 stitch patterns all the way up to 100+ stitch patterns.. What does that mean? I mostly just want to get a sewing machine to make fab clothes for my doggy.. Will the 100+ machines benefit me any more than an 18 stitch pattern machine?

A: The stitch patterns are various types of stitches your machine will make. Mine is small and I have a variation of zig-zag stitches and I really don't need more, but if you are going to do a lot of fancy stitches like embroidering as an example this would give you an idea of what they are. Make your choice if you will be going into designing the 100+ would be it for you. I would go by the price and if that is too much more I would think about it but if it is not much more I would go for it as you probably would not be able to add to the 18 stitch one, but would not necessarily have to use all of the 100+

Q: Where can I find flower and bug beading patterns?
I need to make a stockpile of ornaments for this year's xmas tree and I am having trouble finding patterns for things like beaded dragonflies, spiders, butterflies, flowers lady bugs and so on. Please help! Any patterns are appreciated!

A: A few years ago Beadstyle magazine had a huge issue on how to make creatures w/ swarovski crystals. You can usually get back issues. It was from a few years ago. Their web site usually has information on lots of topics. Another idea is to just start playing w/ your wire & beads so you can create your own styles & be famous! :)

A: settlement patterns: settlement patterns are where people choose to live baised on there needs(eg. food, shelter, water, security) Settlement patterns are usually on a body of water due to the great need for water. Q: How do you digitalize embrodiery patterns?
I know you can make your on embrodiery patterns and sell them. How do you start this?

A: You need to have embroidery design software. Many sewing machine companies have their own program that they sell, but most sewing/embroidery machines can use more than one format. You can buy something simple, like Embird, or spend thousands for a professional-type program. You also need to have a machine so that you can stitch out the designs to test them. Most designers aren't real good for awhile and give away their designs for free to get people to know them. Some designers have a web site and sell their designs and also have some freebies that you can try to see how good the designer is. Have fun with it!

Q: Where can I find patterns for beaded curtains?
I've looked at a few sites. They don't offer any decent patterns. I'd like to make a beaded curtain with a cute pattern on it for my boyfriend, as one of those silly gifts. I don't have a credit card, either, so buying one online is not an option at the moment. I'm sure there are some free online patterns out there somewhere... I just can't find them. :( Any help would be appreciated.

A: Terri Berri Here are some links to some Free Patterns http://www.beadedcurtain.com/bead-crafts/pattern-raindrop-teardrop.htm http://www.beadedcurtain.com/bead-crafts/pattern-arrowhead.htm http://www.beadedcurtain.com/bead-crafts/pattern-circle.htm http://www.beadedcurtain.com/bead-crafts/pattern-star.htm If you want to make something more elaborate, you may have to improvise. Hope that helps Russell

Q: I like working with numbers and patterns in numbers. What would be a good career for me?
I'm at the crucial point of figuring out what I want to do with the rest of my life (I'm nineteen and just finished my first year in college). Currently I'm majoring in Accounting but I honestly don't know exactly what I want to do. I love numbers and figuring out patterns in numbers, etc. Can you think of a good career path for someone like me?

A: Hi Todd, Take a look at what a certified fraud examiner does (link). That might be fun. From what you've said, forensics might interest you, maybe a career dealing with credit card and other types of fraud, or homeland security data crunching. The degree in accounting can get you there. I started my career as an accountant because I loved the subject, which seemed like a fun puzzle to solve. Moved into IT audit after that, and still do that kind of work to pay the bills. As you look to find your place in the world think about the difference between project and program (or process) work. The first offers lots of change and a clear end, the second is routine, and in theory, endless. I wish you the best of luck, and at 19 you've got lots of time to change direction so don't stress over this first move, okay?

Q: Where can I find trendy knitting patterns for babies clothes?
I enjoy knitting and would love to make baby clothes for an expected baby in the family. All the patterns I've seen are very dated. Anyone know where I can get some that are more up-to-date and a bit different from the usual matinee jacket?
