Q: Glass Beads?
I am looking to buy glass beads. Does anyone have any for sale or know where I can buy glass beads at a fair price?
Thanks
A: You could try a craft or fabric store like Micheal's arts and crafts or Joanne Fabrics . The ultimate place that I have found is Fire Mountain Gems..(firemountaingems.com) they have thousands of beads and other bead components that range from economical to high end! You can order only 1 small package or hundreds. They also have a free catalog that you can request...I have found no other craft store in my area (Detroit metro) that even comes close to having the choices that F.M.G. has. Check out thier website, I don't think that you will be disappointed. good luck!
Q: Why do my old glass beads smell like vinegar?
I am an avid bead collector, and I store my glass beads in plastic boxes that have individual compartments. One thing that I notice is that periodically they smell like vinegar, especially the older recycled glass beads and the ones from India. Can anyone explain to me why they make this smell? Thanks!
A: Are you sure they're glass? I know that certain plastics will develop a vinegar smell and some will even break down and have a horrible sour milk/rancid cheese smell. Take a hot needle to the bead and see if it melts, if it does, it's not really glass.
Q: How can I get the pieces of glass from glass beads out of my fingers and hands?
I was hoping to find an effective way of getting the almost microscopic remnants of glass out of my fingers and hands after hand sewing one-by-one the small glass beads that are usually used for jewlrey and come in plastic as well. I wash my hands and under my nails after handling the beads but I will still see little bits sparkle in the light and often times feel tiny sharp pains in my finger tips when I touch things. Anyone know of any "special scrubbing patterns" I can use to get these annoying little boogers out?!?
A: Try Elmer's glue. Apply it to the area and let it dry. Then peel it off and some of the glass shards should come out. It is the same principal as using the glue to remove splinters. It couldn't hurt to try.
Q: Where can I find some blown glass beads and pendants in MA?

Q: How can I locate Zephyr Glass, last known to be in Wisconsin, which makes Tiffany-style glass beads?
Their beads are irridescent in a selection of colors and the molten glass is wrapped around a mandrel to produce the beads. I found them at the 'Best Bead Show' in Tucson about five years ago. I cannot locate a website for them, nor a business phone listing in Wisconsin or Minnesota.
The phone number provided by the one person who answered my question has been disconnected.
A: Hi just checked the Tucson show site and no Zephyr this year. There is a show coming to Milwaukee in June and they are not on it either looks like out of business sorry! I would send a letter to address with return signature to see if it comes back or not!
Q: Are those art glass beads okay for the bottom of my aquarium?
Iv got an aquarium set up with those glass beads you see in craft stores and in vases. I have them for the bottom of my tank. I'm wondering if they're okay and if they will grow algae on them because i also have an algae eater.
Im wondering about the algae because if theres no algae the fish could starve
A: Generally they're okay but shouldn't be the only thing in the tank and you need to be sure there isn't some kind of laquer or paint on them that can chip off or leach chemicals into your water. You will still need some kind of gravel or sand since the glass marbles of any kind generally don't make a good surface for algae or beneficial bacteria to grow on. Be sure you are offering other foods to your algae eater...Most tanks don't grow the right kind of algae for them in a big enough amount to maintain their health. They need a varied diet just like we do. Be sure to offer algae wafers and blanched veggies(dipped in boiling water for a few seconds so the veggie doesn't float) periodicly. Zucchinni, squash, cooked peas with the hull off (smoosh each one between your fingers and give them the inner pieces), canned green beans.
Q: Have you ever wondered how to make glass beads?
I learned how to make glass beads several years ago! It's a lot of fun, if you haven't tried it.
Ummm... the point is that this is the "Hobbies and Crafts" category, and people who are interested in such things may be interested in my question. But, you're welcome for the 2 points.
Here is a link that explains the process of making glass beads - melting glass is very addictive!

A: i love glass beads, but i don't know how to make. wont it require kiln or something like that because it invovles fire?

Q: How can I make glass beads at home?

A: here are the steps in making lampwork beads:

Q: Density of glass in form of very small beads using density bottle?
Mass of bottle empty = 26.5 g
Mass when partly filled with beads = 61.5 g
Mass of bottle + glass beads topped up with water =97 g
Mass when bottle is filled with water only =76 g
A) what is volume of glass bottle?
B)What is volume of glass beads?
C) What is density of glass beads?
A: 1. Volume of glass bottle:
76 - 26.5 = 49.5 g water in bottle. Density of water = 1, so volume of bottle is 49.5 cm³.
Mass of beads = 61.5 - 26.5 = 35g
Mass water added to fill bottle = 97 -61.5 = 35.5g
Volume of water added = 35.5cm³
2. Volume of beads = 49.5-35.5 = 14cm³
3. Density of beads = 35/14 = 2.5g/cm³
Q: Where can i get a starter kit for making lampwork glass beads?
i'am a jeweler and i would like to get into making lampwork glass beads. i don't wanna spend a fortune but i need all the supplies and some sort of direction. anyone have any suggestions where to begin? = ]
A: Most large chain-style craft stores should have lampwork kits. However, if they don't.....then smaller privately owned craft stores or beading stores will be more likely to want to order it for you.
Q: why did the glass beaker weigh so much more when adding just an additional 12 glass beads?
24 glass beads were added to an empty beaker and the mass was 12.366 grams. An additional 12 glass beads of the same kind were added to the beaker making it a total of 36 glass beads. the mass became 32.538 grms. Why did the mass more than double in weight??? What made it weight so much more when they were the same glass beads?
A: Weird one,
Guessing here. If you had the beaker in water and the water was providing buoancy then adding more beads would make it not as effective and sink until some water poured into the top, filling the beaker some
Seems like some information is missing here....is this the whole problem?
Q: Anyone who can make their own glass beads?
I am a glass bead maker, I make beads using a torch, (LAMPWORK) I WAS WONDERING WHETHEr there are any sites with techniques showing you how to make glass beads, like differnt techniques to make intersting ones..sorry for the bad english, im in a rush! thanx!

Q: Name this book?: a missonary buys glass beads in a feeble effort to convert australian aboriginees...?
I read this book about 30 years ago. It was very funny and I would like to be able to read it again. It is the story of an incompetent theology student. To be rid of him, the church gives him $30,000 to go to Australia to be a missonary. He uses the money to buy $30,000 worth of glass beads and the church is billed $100000 to ship them to australia. He arrives in Australia and 'comedy ensues...'
A: "The Lively Lives of Crispin Mobey" by Gabriel Quyth

"Kirkus Reviews Mildly entertaining misadventures of a would-be missionary, from the pseudonymous Quyth: Mobey undertakes to convert erring souls all over the globe, as well as in heaven and hell. Unsinkable dolt Mobey's first mission for the Southern Primitive Protestant Church (SoPrim) takes him to Australia, where the Anula tribe stand in dire need of Christian instruction (among other disasters, Mobey feeds the tribe on glass beads, starts a war, and precipitates a monsoon). In backward Oblivia, Mobey persuades the Oblivians to give up their political civil war--in favor of a religious civil war. Next, Mobey discovers his roots in England and acquires a bottom-pinching invisible fairy godfather. In Mexico, he fearlessly tackles a conspiracy of vampire senior citizens. During a trip to hell, he's acclaimed by the devil for inventing a new torture: preaching to the damned. In Cajun country, he falls afoul of the local Obeah woman. It's Mobey to the rescue in Japan, where a sinister cult of Plug Uglies threatens good, solid SoPrim morality. And, finally, Mobey reaches heaven (it's near the Orion nebula) and receives instructions from Dr. Livingstone on how to save humanity. Broadly satirical, often jaundiced--Quyth evidently vented some private spleen in writing it--and intermittently amusing; the sort of thing a tree SoPrim believer would gladly find offensive.

Q: I'm looking for cheap plastic and glass beads in wholesale bulk lots?
I need to order beads by the thousands. A few of you have answered my previous question on the same thing but I can't reply to my own post so I'll thank you here. I called the canadian site and they said that there price is per bead. I can get smaller quantities down the road at the fabric store but they have very limited selection. At least there I can get 315, 8mm beads for less then $2. Less then a penny a bead. I just love the more professional look of the glass beads. I've been getting the clear beads and using the Krylon Plastic paint to make a few different colors but the paint is heavy in some spots and the clear bead sticks out in other spots. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanx, Jason
A: IM BEING COMPLETELY SERIOUSE, I DO THIS:
go to wal mart and go to the arts and crafts section and find some beads with holes in them.
Q: what size wire do I need for 6mm glass beads?
what gauge headpins do I need for 6mm glass beads? Is it 20 gauge?
A: Its hard to know for sure, since knowing the dimension of the bead doesn't neccessarily tell the size of the hole, but 6mm is probably big enough to go over most common wire sizes from 18 on down. 20g head pins should go through them no problem, I would think.
